Italy

30 June, 2007 | On Road

Hi everyone!

After our departure from the Costa Brava on the 19th of June, we have already crossed (rather quickly) Italy. We spent several days in Rome, Florence and, finally, Venice, always staying in youth hostels with other backpackers. There we felt comfortable and had no problem at all, except for one night we had to share our bedroom with a guy whose feet smelled of old socks.

If you ever have to stay in that kind of lodging, you can find info and rates in Google, looking up the word “hostels”. Here in Italy the rates range from 15 to 20 Euro approximately.

I have already created a new album in the portfolio with the pictures of this stage. Right now I am writing these lines from the Airport of Venice, from where we are flying to Budapest in a few minutes. We are already heading north. On the 1st of August we have to arrive to Moscow.

We have made the first check-up of our backpacks, and sent the first parcel to good old Eli, who will put it in safekeeping… I am still carrying a lot of weight… but I am still going on without problems. I will break my back or Conan is a wimp compared with me.

We have met very interesting people, from many places. Among them, good old Pepe, from Murcia, who invited us to some Grappa in the camping of Venice. Ryan, the guitar player from Texas, and Hiroko from Japan, with his Hawaiian guitar (ukulele). Pippa, from Cape Town (South Africa), Jennifer and her father from Albuquerque (USA), a family from Murcia, Mridul from Bombay (India), and Gail. One day we also shared a room with three 20-year-old Italian guys. They were in Rome for an Iron Maiden concert. They were always very late and noisy, until big Gadea brought them into line.

I also shared my seat on the train with a lovely lady whose name I cannot remember. I could not say good-bye to her either, because the train broke down and we had to change hurriedly to another train. She was an American painter, and I say hello to her from here.

At the airport we have hydrated our skin as much as possible with the free samples from the duty-free shop.

See you soon!
